簡介
Introduction
Sham Shui Po district is one of the poorest districts in Hong Kong. Here gather many underprivileged people, including the homeless, the old-aged and scavengers. On the streets of Sham Shui Po, there are quite a number of elderly people collecting cardboard, tin cans and other wastes. Sham Shui Po has also the highest number of street sleepers in Hong Kong, according to a survey done by Society for Community Organization in 2013, there were in total 167 homeless people. The poverty problem in this district is relatively severe, and thus it is very in need of the support and assistance of volunteers.

1. Group Prayer
Volunteers can first pray together, hoping that under God’s guidance, the following work can really help the people in need.
2. Purchase Meal vouchers/food
After that, we recommend volunteers to have a meal in the nearby eateries, purchase ‘love meal coupons’, and according to the advice of the eateries, bring the vouchers to the people in need by themselves or to keep the vouchers in the eateries so that they can be used by the needy people who come to the eateries. Volunteers can also purchase take-away and deliver it directly to the people in need.

3. Purchase Materials/Supplies
After meal, volunteers can visit the small shops and stores to buy some daily necessity items and a small amount of food for distribution during the visits afterwards. These stores are small-scale shops which serve the people in the neighbourhood; so they worth and are in need of our support.

4. Experience Scavenging
After preparing the materials, volunteers can experience scavenging by collecting cardboard and cans from the nearby garbage bins.
(You may bring gloves, plastic bags and other materials)
5. Visit The Elderly
Quite a number of elderly people stay in the Sham Shui Po vicinity, but the exact locations are not fixed and can be quite obscure. Yet, volunteers can still try to approach the elderly people.

6. Visit the homeless
The biggest target group of Sham Shui Po should be the street sleepers. Volunteers can bring supplies and reserve time to visit them.

Points-to-Note when Visiting the Homeless
If there is time, a more in-depth option for volunteers is to have deep talk with the homeless people, to try to understand their backgrounds and daily lives.

Supportive services
Volunteers alone may not be able to meet every need of the homeless/elderly, thus, we would suggest volunteers, if necessary, refer the subjects to respective supportive services for help, and provide more advice to the subjects regarding the assistance available in sociey, so that the subjects can be more supported.
*List of nearby supportive services/facilities
Volunteers can also inform the subjects about where the services are provided, so that they can seek assistance on their own.
